Tour 2003 is to the tranquil pastures of Norfolk  - Sprowston Hall - August 1st to 3rd, 2003

After some considerable research, the "leader" and I have decided upon this Marriott Hotel complex.  We haven't been there before, and it has just had a huge amount of money spent on the course and facilities, so it should prove to be interesting.

It meets all the criteria;

  • 4 star,
  • Maximum 3 hours travelling,
  • Resort style complex,
  • Course on-site,
  • Leisure facilities,
  • Swimming pool (or pond for Tutts and Nunny) etc
We have decided to limit the numbers to the same as last year - 28, of which some 22 are already allocated.  If you are not paying any money at the moment, then you don't have a place so you will need to phone Chief if you want to reserve a place.

The Golf

The MMCRGW is a three day weekend of competitive golf, donkey talk and consumption of Britains finest ales.

The Friday starts with a four ball Texas Scramble for which there are prizes for the winning team.  This year, the event will be combined with an Orange ball competition which will attract a further prize for the winning team.

The Saturday marks the beginning of the main competition.  A single round played in four balls of full Stableford handicap.  There are prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Sunday concludes the end of the main competition.  Again, a single round played in four balls of full Stableford handicap.  As with Saturday there are prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Prizes are awarded to third, second and first placed players with the winner taking the magnificent claret jug MMCRGW trophy, to be inscribed and held for a year.

The tradition used to be that the winner organised the following years event.  This was changed when Dave Burton won it - nobody fancied two rounds at Oaks Park and a fish & chip supper in the Greyhound!!

The Entertainment

Watching Dave Clarke swing a club can keep most people amused for a couple of hours.  However, MMCRGW has a tradition of staying in some of the finest country clubs in the UK and Ireland.

These places offer the golfer the opportunity to unwind after a hard days "iron man" golf with a beer or seven in the most luxurious of surroundings.  Swimming, gym, squash, tennis etc are all available for those that feel the need.

It has even been known in the past, for special sub-aqua lessons to be available to members from our resident Jaques Cousteau expert, Mr Simon Nunn.
